Camaro LS1 Trivia: For the 1998 model year, the Camaro received a facelift and now had a new front clip. This replaced the quartet of square inset headlights. Replacing the LT1 engine was the all-new 5.7 L (346 cuin) LS1 V8 engine rated at 305 hp (227 kW), which had also been introduced in the newly launched Corvette C5. The new engine featured an aluminum cylinder block with iron sleeves, reducing weight by about 95 lb (43 kg) as compared to the iron block LT1 engine. 1998 was the only year in which LS1 powered models had an actual working coolant temperature gauge. Minor changes were made to the suspension and the brakes were increased in size. Total production for 1998 was just 48,495 units in total. This is the first year that the SS model was actually manufactured solely by Chevrolet in twenty years.
General Throttle Body Installation Instructions:
Replacing the original throttle body and installing an Accufab throttle body is considered a “bolt-on” modification. In most cases it is an “off with the old and on with the new” process.
In some cases, some minor modifications are required. If, for instance, the new throttle body is larger than the inlet hole in the intake manifold, some minor grinding or chamfering of the inlet hole may be required. On the 1996-1998 Cobra installations, the bridge between the dual-hole intake manifold must be ground or cut out so as to permit the installation of the larger single blade Accufab throttle body. It will be necessary to remove the upper intake manifold lid to accomplish this.
All of these tasks are relatively easy to do, however, if any part of a throttle body installation is thought of as being difficult, or if you are uncomfortable with doing it yourself, we recommend getting advice or consultation from a professional.
In general, here are some generic throttle body installation instructions:
1. Disconnect the ground cable from your battery.
2. Remove the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) from the original throttle body. If the original throttle body also has an Idle Air Control motor (IAC), remove that too.
3. Remove the original throttle body (typically, four bolts).
4. If the vehicle requires any modifications to the intake manifold, do that now.
5. When that is complete, install the new Accufab throttle body.
6. Then, re-install the IAC and TPS, reconnect the battery cable.
